by Lucas Kohlman from Cochrane, Alberta in Canada

You just can't beat a person who never gives up

131383Babe Ruth WebLucasThe book I am reading is Who Was Babe Ruth by Joan Holub.  She graduated from college in Texas. Joan Holub has written over 130 books.  This book is a biography. This book has 81 pages.  This book covers Babe Ruth’s whole life.  Babe Ruth was born in 1895 and he died in 1948.  This book was written in 2012. I chose Babe Ruth because he played baseball which is one of my favourite sports.

131385Babe RuthLucasBabe Ruth was born and grew up  in Baltimore. Babe Ruth had six family members including himself.  He had two brothers and one sister. Babe Ruth went to school at Cardinal Gibbons Boarding School.  He was sent to boarding school because he was a troublemaker. He was a troublemaker because he stole fruit and skipped school.  Babe Ruth was interested in baseball because it was the most famous sport in America. Babe Ruth also loved food. He would eat six stacks of pancakes at breakfast.  In one year he gained 50 pounds. ¨Brother Matthias¨, was Babe´s nickname for his best friend who influenced Babe Ruth when he was growing up. Matthias was the biggest kid at Babe Ruth’s school and was his friend.  Mathias would give Babe Ruth pep talks. Babe Ruth’s dream was to become a famous baseball player. When he was young he practiced a lot of baseball and that’s what made him successful.  Babe Ruth’s real name is George Herman Ruth. People called him Babe Ruth when he was famous.

Once Babe Ruth’s coach said that he was too out of shape to play professional baseball.  Babe Ruth was able to overcome being out of shape by having a pig and hen farm and doing weights in the summer.  The pig and hen farm helped him because the pigs and hens were good for his diet.  The person that contributed the most to his success was Matthias. Matthias showed Babe Ruth how to swing a bat and pitch a ball. Babe Ruth was amazing at batting.  He hit 259 homers in the Yankee stadium. Babe Ruth was funny. He made funny faces at the table and he played practical jokes.  Babe Ruth was a hard worker. He was always the last person to leave the field. Babe Ruth’s weakness was staying up late in his hotel. This made his life hard because he had bad games because he was too tired to focus. A sad thing that happened to Babe Ruth was Matthias died because of a street fight. A funny thing about Babe Ruth is his nickname was ¨Bambino¨. Babe Ruth has won the most home runs in a year and has won seven American League and four championships for the Yankees.

131386Babe RuthLucasI was surprised to learn that when Babe Ruth was a kid, he stole from fruit stands.  I was disappointed about this because he was stealing. The three things I would like to ask Babe Ruth are: did you like your boarding school, how did you stay focused during World War Two and was it hard to leave your daughter in the summertime to play baseball? I would not like to be Babe Ruth's child because he would not have a lot of time to play with me. I liked this book because it had a lot of facts in it. It was a non-fiction book which are the books I like to read. What I learned from the book was Babe Ruth hit two hundred and fifty nine homers in the Yankee stadium. The things I could learn from this book lesson is ok to to take breaks in my soccer. Someone might not want to read this book because it is a fact book. You might not like this book because it does not have action in it. I am happy I chose this book because Babe Ruth does sports just like me. Babe Ruth is a good hero because he proved you can fix mistakes.
