George Washington was the first president of the United States, sworn in on April, 30th, 1789 at Federal Hall in New York. He was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, VA and died December 14, 1799, George Washington's Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon, VA. His vice president was John Adams. During the Revolutionary War, he was the commander in chief of the Continental Army. During his presidency he served two terms, from 1789 to 1797. He was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the constitution. He helped declare independence from England and was one of the founders of the United States.
