The Goddess
by Prakash G. Nayak
Painting
The artist blends contemporary painting styles with his traditional Indian roots. North Kanara is a traditional and folk community of Karnataka. Their thoughts and practices are influenced by the belief in (yantra-Mantra) and the Village Goddess "wooden statue." This illusionary reality takes a decorative form in Nayak's work. Fish, snake and flam motifs contribute to what the artist calls his "rhythmic narrations."
In The Goddess, the artist emphasizes divinity in folklore terms by combining vibrant colors and traditional symbols.
