Amanda Borden

by Janae from Westerville

Amanda Borden was born on May 10, 1977 in Cincinnati Ohio. She was her family's first born child. Her full name is Amanda Katelyn Borden.

Her family was an average size. Amanda has a mom, dad, and Brother Bryan. Her mom's name is Kim and her dad's name is Kevin.

As a child Amanda had a lot of accomplishments. She did T-ball, ballet, ice skating, and soccer before doing gymnastics at the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy run by Mary Lee Tracy. While she was training at her gym she met Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller. In high school she was a straight a student and she was elected homecoming queen.

In 1996 she tied out for the Olympic gymnastics team and made it. While she was training for the Olympics she broke her metacarpal in her hand. But it was better before the Olympics.

Amanda's team voted her captain while training. She won an Olympic gold medal when her team went to the Olympics. In 2006 she married Brad Cochram. On July 29th, 2006 Amanda and Brad welcomed their daughter Kennedy Faith into the world.

In 1996 when Amanda won her gold medal the Olympics were going on in Atlanta, Georgia. Many people from all over the world came to watch.

Amanda lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband Brad and 5 year old daughter Kennedy Faith. Brad and Amanda own their own gym named Gold Medal Gymnastics, where their daughter Kennedy trains. They hope to help kids follow their dreams in gymnastics.

Amanda Borden is a hero to me because she helps ordinary kids to follow their dreams. When she was a kid she wanted to be an Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics. It took hard work but she did it. One day I want to follow my dreams just like Amanda.

Here are some interesting things about Amanda and gymnastics. She is 5 foot 3. Most gymnasts don't grow to be very tall. As a kid Amanda's family called her "Poppy". Out of all her Olympic teammates she was the first to have a baby.
