Corissa

My sister is my hero because she’s accomplished more on her own at such a young age, than most people I know. She has also never had both parents around and has had the help of family, but for the most part has been independent. She started working at the age of 16 and now is already 20 going on to her last year of college. She pays for her own car, phone, and bills and is back to having one job again. My sister has been through a lot, and I’m actually proud of where she’s at now in life.

When we were little I would see my sister every other weekend. Most of the time we were with our grandma. When we were with my mom there were either good days or bad days. I would leave on Sunday and wonder how my sister could make it every day there. With my dad, everything was so different. I know without family she'd have it way worse, but I still admired the fact that the way she was living was not as good as the way I was, and yet she was still happy.

As we got older, I stopped going there for a few years. By the time my sister was already in the middle of her teen years, every time I talked to her something new happened. She was growing up fast and she was getting more done than my mom at the time. That's when she started to slowly grow on me. So we started hanging out more after she got her own car. I finally had an older sister again. I missed having her for that period of time. Going in to my teen years it was nice to have a girl around again.

I think it's amazing how my sister just finished High School not too long ago and she already has had two jobs and gone to school. Not only that, but she's already lived on her own. Now she balances her school, work, bills, and still has a crazy social life. She might have a ditzy personality, but she is definitely a smart and strong person.

I could easily say that my sister is my hero because she has motivated me to be independent and to get stuff done. To be productive and get work done, and still make time for play. My sister has been proof that age has nothing to do with maturity. No matter how young you are to others, getting stuff done can be the biggest act as an adult. I guess I'm lucky to be related to my hero.
