Emily Dickinson was an American poet. She was born on December 10th, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she lived her whole life. She wrote poems for adults and children. Here is one of her more famous poems, untitled as all of them were:
"Hope" is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -I've heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of Me.
"Emily lived a quiet life and wrote great poems!" wrote Carol Greene in her book, Emily Dickinson, American Poet. It means that she stayed in her house and wrote great poetry like no one else could write. Hardly anybody knew she wrote poetry. Her poems were discovered after her death.
