Maurice Greene is my hero because he has motivated me in my running. Greene is an Olympic runner, and I would like to be in the Olympics as a runner someday. Greene was born on July 23, 1974, and is alive today, and is still running. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas.
Greene inspires me because it must be hard getting up early every morning and practicing even when you don’t feel good or you're tired. Sometimes I don’t feel like waking up or going to running practice, but I just think about going to the Olympics and how hard Maurice Greene trains.
Maurice Greene has won a lot of awards and most of them are gold. In 1995, Greene took part in his first major international tournament at the World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. At the World Championships in Athens, Greece, he captured the 100-meter title, and kept it in 1999 and 2001. In 2000 he won a gold medal in the Olympics. At the 1999 World Championships he won for the 100m and 200m, the first to win both events At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, he got a bronze, and in the United States 4 x 100m he won the Silver.
My hero has a few world records in the 100m and 200m events, but you can’t hold records for long. In 1999 he set a world record at 9.70s (+0.1 m/s wind). He set the 60m indoor world record twice. His 60m indoor record is currently at 6.39s. In 2002, Mo lost his 100m-world record to his American teammate, Tim Montgomery by 0.01s! Greene has run 53 sub-10 second 100m races during his career, more than any other sprinter in history!
To me Maurice Greene is a really great runner and always will be. He has encouraged me to keep with my running career. Mo has set records in the Olympics many times. You never know, I might be the one setting records in a few years.
