Griffin McElroy is a podcaster, video producer, composer, and a writer. He does comedy podcasts like My Brother My Brother and Me, The Adventure Zone, is a Senior Editorial Producer for Polygon, and a bunch of other things. He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife Rachel and son Henry.
https://www.griffinmcelroy.com/aboutGriffin uses his large media platform to support the LGBTQ+ community and normalize differing gender identities and sexualities. He manages to support the LGBTQ+ community despite being a Caucasian, heterosexual, cis-gendered, man. He manages to support LGBTQ+ community while he personally is not someone who directly struggles with the issues that the LGBTQ+ community directly supports, which is impressive to me for him to be able to make such a huge supportive impact in the community, and is something I would like to mirror in myself, which is why Griffin is such a large role model and hero to me, who is also a Caucasian, heterosexual, cis-gendered male who supports the LGBTQ+ community.
Griffin also manages to have an interdenominational religious atmosphere throughout his podcasts, allowing for all listeners to feel included and avoiding ostracizing any individuals for their beliefs. This is important to me and causes me to admire him because I am an agnostic person from a religious family and have grown up in religious schools, and it feels nice listening to his podcast to not feel excluded based on beliefs.
Griffin has very bad anxiety that he has to balance along with putting himself on a platform for huge amounts of people through an online medium. He must balance trying to please everyone while still trying to be true to himself and his vision for his medium. I am also a person who has bad anxiety, so seeing someone like him who manages to balance all his anxiety to make such an impact on a wide scale is admirable to me and drives me to want to improve and be a better person despite anxiety, rather than letting it control my actions.
I also admire the way Griffin manages to stay so close and support his family despite his super busy lifestyle. I personally struggle to make time for my family and maintain close relationships with them, so seeing the way that Griffin manages to stay in close contact with his brothers and dad, even to the point of incorporating them and inviting him into his job of podcasting and creating a group effort. This inspires me to work harder to make time and build relationships with my family.
All around, Griffin McElroy manages to act as a hero and admirable individual through his actions using his considerably powerful voice in the public eye that he himself has built to support the LGBTQ+ community, balance and normalize anxiety and mental illness, and hold an interdenominational religious atmosphere, all while building a new family and maintaining strong relationships with his friends and his brothers and dad.
You can find Griffin McElroy’s website at https://www.griffinmcelroy.com/ and his twitter @griffinmcelroy. His podcasts can all be found on https://www.maximumfun.org, iTunes, or Spotify. My personal favorites of his podcasts are his Dungeons and Dragons podcast called The Adventure Zone, and his comedic advice show called My Brother, My Brother and Me. And now I will leave you with my favorite quote from Griffin McElroy: “When someone leaves your life, those exits are not made equal. Some are beautiful and poetic and satisfying. Others are abrupt and unfair. But most are just unremarkable, unintentional, clumsy.”https://www.griffinmcelroy.com/about
