MY HERO is a not for profit online project that was launched in 1995 with the goal of providing positive role models in the media. Today the project is used a digital storytelling portal in schools across the USA and in 194 countries. Last year over 12 million locations accessed the website to share and discover stories, art, films and music about heroes from all walks of life.
Jeanne Meyers and Nathan Smith, presenters of the MY HERO project, welcome support from the members of the CREL community to help improve and update their online learning project. CREL encourages attendees to submit ideas for discussion or partner with CREL through a formal grant writing or informal partnership process to develop the technology employed in the MY HEROwebsite.
Speaker Bio(s):
Jeanne Meyers is the co-founder and director of the MY HERO Project. Prior to MY HERO Meyers worked as a documentary filmmaker and traveled around the world for NBC News. She was formerly the Director of Brown University Media Services, and she attended Brown University and the American Film Institute.
Nathan Smith was teaching multimedia at the Laguna College of Art when he was 13. He been designing and developing the MY HERO web site for the last 18 years. He is a graphic artist and programmer who recently put together a promo for the project and a teacher digital tool kit.
