Julie Andrews

When most people think of a hero they think of a big, strong person, but when I think of a hero I think of Julie Andrews. Julie Andrews has impacted my life because we both have overcome obstacles that had to do with music. Julie Andrews had a great career until a tragic mistake while she was having an operation, but she never gave up and for that she is my hero.

Julia Elizabeth Wells was born in Surry England on October 1st, 1935. When she was a young child, she learned that she had an amazing four octave voice range. When her parents learned this they immediately began her singing career. Julie made her debut in 1954 on Broadway at the age of nineteen. She worked in television until she got the lead role in the movie Mary Poppins. At that moment her music career really started. She began working with bigger and bigger celebrities such as Carol Burnett, Alfred Hitchcock and Robert Stevenson. Some of the movies she worked on were “Enchanted", “Shrek", “The Cat That Looked at the King", “Eloise at the Plaza”, “Eloise at Christmas Time”, and my favorites, “The Sound of Music” and “Thoroughly Modern Mille".

Julie is my hero because she overcame obstacles with her voice when her career was at its peak. In 1998 she got a throat operation, bringing her career to a halt for an entire year. This one operation changed her life forever, but she never quit singing. She kept on going and never gave up.

This relates to me because when I was little, I lost some of the hearing in my left ear. Music has always been important to me, just like Julie. When I learned that she lost her voice her story impacted my life in a huge way. To see someone who lost her voice make such a big turn around with singing and music shows that I can make a huge change too. Now I try new things everyday because her story completely changed me.

As you learned Julie Andrews is a hero because she over came obstacles and influenced my life by following her dream. She is a great hero and an amazing person. Julie Andrews always tries hard and always persevered.
