“Do today, so tomorrow you can do something else.”

My grandfather, John Enos

My hero is my grandfather, John Enos. He may not have saved people’s lives or have won an Academy Award, but he meets my qualifications of a hero. My perception of a real hero is someone who has overcome hardships to become successful with many outstanding achievements. My grandfather is intelligent, courageous, inspiring, influential, motivating, creative, and unique.

My grandfather is a true survivor because he took care of his family, ever since he was a boy. His family was poor and had nothing, but he worked his way up and supported his family. Ever since he lost his parents, my grandfather has helped to pay his sister's and brother’s expenses. He went into the United States Navy and worked as an electronic technician so the Navy could pay for his college and his traveling expenses. My grandfather traveled around the world and tasted different cultures. He bought his first house, with cash, at the age of 27. He owned his own land, three houses, and a small farm in his early 30s.

My grandfather always told me that he wants the best for me and that he will do whatever it takes for me to receive a good education. He was the person to push me to excel in school and sports so that I could have a better life than he did. I admire him for helping me be the person who I am today, a person who has become a positive leader who can survive on her own.

My grandfather and me
My grandfather and me

My grandfather inspires me to be the person I want to be. When I was younger, I wanted to be a doctor, a model, a news anchor, an actress, and a singer. Now, I want to become a pediatric nurse who works with children. I have a passion to be around children because my grandfather was the president of a children’s center. My grandfather would take me to the children’s center, where I would help the disabled children. My grandfather had a passion for helping disabled children like I have a passion being around young children.

I see myself following in my grandfather’s footsteps because when I was younger, I had to deal with similar hardships as my grandfather did when he was a boy. While growing up, I was raised by a mother who was hardly around and didn’t spend time with me. My mother couldn’t support my siblings and me because she was on welfare. Now, I turned out successful because I have been in student council, ever since elementary school, and I have always been ahead of my class. I am going to be the Student Body president of my school and I am in the National Honor Society, in which we do many volunteer works. My life would not have been the way it is now if it were not for my grandfather, who has been my guiding angel. My grandfather is my hero, my superman!
