Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn New York. He was the third son of his parents, James and Delores Jordan. Jordan went to Ogden Elementary School and Trask Junior High School. He had two older brothers, one older sister, and one younger sister. Jordan became a three sports star at Emsley A. Laney High School. The sports were football, baseball, and basketball. Jordan was cut from the basketball team because he was 5 ft 9in. He was deemed undeveloped. But over the summer he grew four inches. Jordan then earned a scholarship in basketball at the University of North Carolina. He then left Carolina to enter the NBA Draft. He was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the first round as the third pick.
On October 6, 1993, Jordan announced his retirement. He wanted to retire because of his father’s murder. When Jordan announced his retirement the NBA fell into shock. Then he signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox was owned by the Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf. In early 1995 Jordan returned to the NBA to play with the Bulls. Then in 2000 he played with the Washington Wizards.
Michael Jordan faced hardships in his basketball career. One of them was he tried to beat Wilt Chamberlain’s record of the most NBA scoring titles. He then succeeded with eight NBA scoring titles.
Michael Jordan faced a very big challenge in his life. It is when his father, James Jordan, was murdered in 1993. His father was murdered during a robbery. Then Jordan retired and in 1993 stuck to baseball. He played with the Chicago White Sox in a minor league system. But in 1995 he came back to the NBA.
Jordan is most famous for being a basketball legend and known as the best basketball player ever. He is one of the world’s most idolized sportsmen. Michael Jordan also received many awards. They are NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, NBA Finals MVP, NBA MVP, NBA Defensive player of the Year, NBA Rookie of the Year, John R. Wooden Award, Adolph Rupp Trophy, ACC Men’s Basketball player of the year, and Naismith College Player of The Year.
