When her hero, Alfred Lord Tennyson asked Julia Margaret Cameron to illustrate his latest book with original photographs, she replied, "it is immortality to me to be bound up with you." That book was a new edition of his "Idylls of the King," a recasting of the stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Above, Lynette mourns the death of Gareth, recently slain by Sir Lancelot. For the characters in the photographs, Cameron enlisted the aid of friends and family.
