Painted in 1888, this piece proves out Van Gogh's fascination with peasant life. Van Gogh was now in Arles, France and his choice of colors has brightened significantly. He'd dedicated a number of shoes to paint, returning time and again to the subject to hone his craft, showing not just the skill of a brilliant painter but the dedication of a hero.
