Mrs. Linda Klepper

by Alicia from Joplin

There are many kinds of heroes - some that save the world or save lives, others who are well-known, but there are also those who are just ordinary people that someone else admires or just looks up to. It only takes a moment for someone to become a hero. At one point in their life, everyone has the chance to become someone’s hero; it is up to that individual to decide if they want to be a hero or not.

Mrs. Linda Klepper is my true hero. Although she’s not famous and does not save the world, Mrs. Klepper has made a major impact on my life. Since I had her as my 2nd grade teacher, she has taught me many important facts about life. Mrs. Klepper showed me that when faced with a difficult decision, do what you feel is the right thing. Also, when you really don’t want to do something, take a chance - go for it, and hope for the best. Awhile back, she was told that she had colon cancer. I had never seen her scared until that time. Even though she didn’t want to have surgery or chemotherapy, she went on and had the surgery and is now almost finished with her “chemo.”

She is still teaching second grade and changing the lives of many young children. Her patience and love for each child is amazing. All of her young students admire her and will never forget all the things she has done for them.

Unlike many other teachers, her love for each child doesn’t disappear when they walk out the door, but it follows them around wherever they might go. Any problem or worry for them is a problem for her too. It is for this reason that I have stayed close to her through all the years. For me and all her current/past students, she has become our second mother and a true friend.

Heroes have a major impact on the society. They give everyone a positive outlook and hope for a better future. Everyone needs a hero to admire and look up to. A world without heroes would be devastating. Children would no longer have the excitement and hope to become someone or something great. Heroes are the world’s hope for a brighter future to come.
