Lynne Cherry and her Young Voices for the Planet Project has featured many wonderful heroes. Lynne Cherry is an author, artist and filmmaker. MY HERO is very grateful to her for sharing her inspiring short films. The heroes she honors are young people who are creating positive change in the world.

Words Have Power

10-year-old Jaysa rallies the community with her speeches about how the power plant causes asthma and “so much suffering.” When they succeed in shutting down the plant, Jaysa concludes that “words have power."

The Last Straw

Lynne Cherry
Nine-year-old Milo Cress is concerned about the millions of straws that pollute waterways, waste fossil-fuel resource and harm ocean creatures. With the help of some friends, he convinces restaurants to “go straw-free”. Milo then takes the fight all the way to Capitol Hill.

Olivia's Birds and the Oil Spill

Save Tomorrow

Save Tomorrow is the 10th Young Voices for the Planet film. It documents three 9-year-old girls who are concerned about climate change and feel that the adults have let them down. But after seeing the kids in the other Young Voices for the Planet films (their peers who they can identify with) they come to believe that maybe they can make a difference, too. They testify at their town meeting and help overturn a regulation prohibiting solar panels on town buildings. Subsequently, Lexington, Massachusetts installs solar panels on all the town buildings. For these girls, this is only the beginning. As one of the Save Tomorrow team, Mari McBride, says, “find your team! Find your passion! Find your power!”

When four Florida middle school students learn about the potential effect of sea level rise on Miami's economy, they conduct a school energy audit with the help of the non-profit "Dream in Green". Through their actions, their school saves thousands of dollars in energy costs by doing simple things that add up.
