For me a hero is a person who is not selfish and puts other people before them. Or someone who is helpful and who inspires you. A hero does not have to be a well known famous person, but someone who lives in your community who helps people with a problem that they have. Or even someone who has gone through some hard challenges that changed their life but still kept going.

My hero is my mom, Maria Cervantes; she is a very important person in my life. Her childhood was normal in the beginning, she was the second oldest of five kids. Maria helped my grandma with the chores by cleaning the dishes, cleaning the house, and taking care of my uncles. At the age 12 she started working in the fields to support the family. Maria faced a challenge when she wanted come here to the United State by herself. But little by little, she got used to the U.S with help of her family. That makes her a hero to me because who knows if I would be in school at age 12 if my mom did not come to the United States. Her working in the fields made her the hard worker she is today and she works everyday to give me what I have which makes her my hero.

Someone who inspires her is me because I am a well behaved girl and have good grades. I am very responsible and she is happy to have me in her life. Maria feels very proud to be called a hero because she has never been called a hero. She is very happy to be my hero. Maria is proud of accomplishing coming to the United States and start a new life. Maria did this to help her brother with his new born baby girl, which made her a great and loving mom.

Advice she would give young people is ”Be a responsible and respectful kid. Be a nice loveable person, do stuff that you will not regret later. Also treat people how you want to be treated.” Something that she would change is her short temper, which I inherited from her. She always tries to be a peaceful person but sometimes people get on her nerves very fast.

Maria, my hero, is a very strong independent woman. She is the best mom and inspires me to make the right decisions. She is my hero because she is the person, besides my dad, that tells me to never give up. She is the best mom and I love her.
