Our hero, Mohammed Hmeidan public domain photoMohammed Hmeidan, LE Staff Economic Assistant in the Embassy Muscat Pol-Econ Section, is a hero for Embassy Muscat’s Political-Economic Section for his research to support our reporting, analysis, and contact development on Oman’s budget process and financial sector. This year, the fallout from COVID-19 and the collapse of global oil prices affected many aspects of life in Oman. Mohammed’s research formed the basis for reports for Washington DC officials to understand the various economic measures the government adopted. Mohammed’s excellent background knowledge provided important insights for our officers, enriching our reporting. Mohammed is also our guru on the structured steps of government processes and has routinely shepherded a wide range of requests to completion. Without this help, our team simply could not do our jobs.

Our hero, Raji Danielpublic domain photoRaji Daniel, LE Staff Commercial Assistant, is our hero for her contributions to economic and commercial reporting and her stewardship of our annual “Discover America” campaign to promote U.S. brands in Oman. Raji’s writing skills and in-depth knowledge of Oman’s business community made her an effective co-drafter of important section reports on such topics as Oman’s emerging business climate trends and critical sectors such as renewable energy.

She tirelessly supports U.S. firms throughout the year, and especially so every October when she plays a central role in a series of “Discover America” events that have become a highlight of Muscat’s social calendar and significantly boosted the profile of American products. Raji has used her extensive knowledge to help inform our understanding of important issues such as the impact of COVID-19 on business operations, critical supply chains, and Muscat’s community of expatriate professionals. She is also a vital link for us with the Oman American Business Center (the local AmCham chapter), which is one of Oman’s most active business networking groups and one of Embassy Muscat’s most important local partners.
