Moses kneeling to the ground (http://mb11.scout.com/)) |
The hero I’ve chosen for this report is the Jewish prophet Moses. He is a great example of a hero of faith because he is the most recognizable Jew of all time. The reason I think of him as a hero is because he helped millions of Israelites to make it to the promised land where they lived their lives in peace and freedom. Moses is a great example of a hero and is admired by people of all religions.
Moses was born on 7 Adar (Hebrew for February/March) around 1400b.c. If you saw him, you probably would not have thought of him as the ideal hero. Moses had a speech impediment and often stuttered; he also had a short temper and would sometimes lose control of his emotions. Despite all his imperfections, Moses still had enough composure to stand up against the Pharaoh and lead the Israelites to freedom. He is also credited with being the first person to talk to God face-to-face and in a real language, not through dreams.

Moses holding up the Ten Commandments (http://www.fraema.it/religiosa.asp) |
Many people remember Moses for splitting the Red Sea, but he had many other great achievements like delivering the Ten Commandments. Moses may not have been the bravest man, but he believed in the word of God and went through with God’s decisions. People who suffer from oppression find hope in Moses and his accomplishments.
The reason I chose to do a report on Moses was because my family is Jewish, but my generation does not practice Judaism, so I thought I owed it to my grandparents to at least learn about their religion’s greatest hero. Before I did my research, I knew who Moses was and that he had split the Red Sea, but I had no idea that he was such an inspiration to so many people all over the world. Now that I know more about him, I have a great deal of respect for Moses and recognize him as a hero.
