Mrs. Pam - A Hero Worth Noting

by Lalia Creech from Charlotte, NC

“The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.”

A person who is your pastor’s wife, the youth group leader, and someone who LOVES polka dots would not be your ordinary hero, but she is mine. I think that Mrs. Pam is the only person who fits all of my criteria when defining heroism.  Mrs. Pam is a very energetic and lively person filled with God and happiness. She is very fearless and whenever she sees a little kid that she knows, she goes up and hugs them. She came with us on our trip to Israel in 2018, and let me tell you, she is a very outgoing 60 year old. This would not be a hero like Wonder Woman, but she is a one of a kind person who loves God, is kindhearted, and is always willing to help.

Mrs. Pam, loves God more than anything else. Since she is my pastor's wife, she has many opportunities to talk to others about Him. Her husband used to be the minister at my grandparents’ church in Henderson, so we are like a very big family. Furthermore, whenever we are singing songs in church, she always does sign language to the songs, and she always inspires others when she is doing that. In conclusion, Mrs. Pam has always been a kid at heart, so when she was asked to lead the youth on their mission trips, she was very excited. When she got a chance to hang out with all of us we all grew closer and closer together as a Christian family.

Mrs. Pam is also very kind hearted. Her granddaughter, Vivian, and I are really good friends. When our church went to Israel in the summer of 2018, she treated me just like she did Vivian, as if I was one of her grandchildren. One thing that always makes me smile is that whenever she sees me she says. “There is my other grandchild…” and that puts warmth in my heart. Also on the Sunday I was baptized, she was the first person to come to the back of the church and hug me, and I thought that was so generous of her. I am so happy that I know this outstanding woman with a kind heart.

I think that Mrs. Pam is willing to help because, she will always pray for you and she will always help you if you need help and, of course, she will always encourage you in everything that you do. Mrs. Pam is a very encouraging and loves to give feedback and compliments to others around her. One day, a little kid came to church and said that his dad had a cold, and that he wanted to make a card for him, and Mrs. Pam joyously agreed to make some cards for his dad. A few years ago, she volunteered a Caterpillar Ministries -which is a way for underprivileged kids to learn about God- many times and loved doing it so much that she told their staff that she is “willing to help”. I am so glad that she has helped me with so many projects for Girl Scouts, Dance and many more of the fun things that I do.

Mrs. Pam taught me not only to appreciate God but to care for others as well. She taught me to pray for others and to be everyone's friend. Once she said, “You are great, but God's love is greater…”, that inspired me to trust in God and to let Him lead me in the right direction. When our church went to Israel - when it was blazing hot - she reminded me that no matter the temperature, we will worship and learn about God. She is always there for me and is always willing to help. This is why Mrs.Pam was the only person that fit all of my criteria. She is a person who loves God, is kindhearted, and is willing to help.
