Rodney Mullen is my hero because he is a skating legend and he has made up many tricks that are impossible for other pros. Rodney Mullen was born on August 17, 1966 in Gainesville, a university town in north central Florida. His dad was a Korean Navy bombardier. His mom was Miss University of Florida. And he had two older sisters named Sara and Vicki. So, he lived with a family of five.
Rodney Mullen started skating when he was eight years old on a board his friend let him borrow. Mullen's dad got him a skateboard on New Years day. He was only able to get it if he were to wear knee and elbow pads. Rodney's dad said that if he got hurt he was to quit the sport. After a while he got a sponsor in an Island Skate Shop and turned pro.
My hero Rodney Mullen has become a skating legend because he never gave up skating and practiced hard and long. Also, he convinced his dad to let him get a skateboard, even though his dad didn't really want him to skate because he didn't want him to get hurt. Rodney Mullen has invented many tricks including the famous darkslide, Godzilla railflip, heelflip, and many more.
Rodney Mullen is important to me because he makes me want to skate. Also, he is daring and can do many things that are impossible to me and many others, including other pro skaters. Rodney Mullen inspires me to skate more often and become better and learn new things.
