My Hero

Queen Soraya Tarzi is my hero because she encouraged girls in Afghanistan to get educated and opened the first primary school for girls in Kabul, the Masturat School, in 1921, as well as the first hospital for women, the Masturat Hospital, in 1924. She also played a major part in the modernization reforms of her husband. Also, she was the first woman ever featured as Person of the Year in Time magazine in 1927.

Another reason Queen Soraya Tarzi is my hero because she grew up in a very strict and religious environment, yet she has accomplished so much and could have done much more. She was a role model to young girls, a wife, a mother, and an older sister.

Queen Soraya Tarzi also encouraged women to participate in public life and sent 15 young women to Turkey for higher education in 1928, all graduates of the Masturat middle school she had founded. Soraya Tarzi's efforts to modernize Afghanistan and empower women made her a symbol of progress and a beacon of hope for future generations.
