The reason that I chose my sister for this project and not somebody relatively famous is because it’s very different to hear about someone's personal achievements and another to personally witness it. And having witnessed it made me think about how truly amazing and extraordinary she is to me. I believe that the way that one responds to a struggle defines the person entirely. They can choose to give up or they can try even harder. My sister is one of few people that do not accept defeat and continue to strive to achieve what they want to in life.

When she was around my age, she was struck with many obstacles in which impeded her success not only academically but personally and emotionally too. These complications made it harder for her to be productive in school but in the end, she still made it out on top and now has become one of the top of her class in college. While in college she has also been working a full time job where she helps out the elderly as a nurse. This has shown me how generous and selfless she can be with other people.

Nowadays we usually see each other every day even though she doesn’t live with us anymore. When she moved out to live with her husband i thought that she and i would drift apart but it’s been just the same, if not better. She and i can be together for hours and not get tired of each other or run out of things to say. She’s my true best friend and also my hero because i look up to her.

When she grew up, the pressure was really hard on her to be successful since she’s the first generation Chicana in the family. That means that she is the first child granted with the opportunity to become educated. Since there was so much pressure, it was hard on her but she proved that it wasn't impossible. Eventually she became a nurse where she helps people out.
