Hero: A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. Synonyms: Idol, conqueror, brave man, leading actor. This is what people think of when they think of a hero. Yet, a true hero is more than these noble definitions. A true hero changes your life in a positive way. They can be a hero by just giving you a meaningful smile when you walk by them in the hallway. They could, even more so, change your life by steering you to Christ. This is what Natalie Grant does all of the time. Cara Stechmann

Natalie Grant was raised in Lynnwood, Washington, just outside of Seattle. She was the youngest of five children. Her thoughts of the future were to be an elementary school teacher, at the same time as she was working at the Shoreline Community Church arranging music for the youth choir. "I had my whole life planned out and I was really involved in music at Shoreline, which had an incredible youth music program," Grant told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

But, then, a Christian group called Truth performed at her church. Natalie was immediately drawn to their music and message. She auditioned with the band while they were there. "I heard them perform and I said to myself, 'this is what I'm supposed to be doing.’ And my whole life took a left turn.”

She is a hero today because of that one band. That group is probably a hero for her, like she is a hero for me and many others. When she saw what she wanted to do, she stuck to it. She followed God. She knew that somehow, she could change people for the better. She has now let out many albums, and sung at many concerts. She followed her dream.

The dictionary may be right about how a hero is a courageous actor, noble man, or a strong super-person. But, what is doesn’t list, and what is the most important definition of this word, is that a hero is a friend to you, whether you have never met them, or you guys are best buddies. A hero changes your life for the better.
