My hero is Nellie McClung. She was born in Chatsworth, Ontario On October 20th, 1873. At the age of sixteen, she moved to Winnipeg and was qualified to teach.
Before World War I, she was a popular author. Her books compared life in the country with life in the city. Many people read these books. She was concerned about how women were treated during the pioneer days.
In 1916, women in Manitoba were given the right to vote. Soon all the provinces in Canada gave women the right to vote.
Nellie McClung is a hero to me because if it weren’t for her, Canadian women would not be allowed to vote. I also admire Ms. McClung because no matter where you are from or whether you are a boy or girl you can make a difference.
