Nelson Mandela was a South African who was a antiapartheid revolutionary, a philanthropist, and a political leader. From 1994 to 1999 he was the South Africa president and he was actually the first black head of state and the first elected in a democratic election that was fully representative. Mandela established measures to combat poverty and expand healthcare services. He became a global symbol of peacemaking, and he won the Nobel Peace Prize (with de Klerk). Mandela also founded the Nelson Mandela Foundation, which is focusing on combating poverty and HIV/AIDS. I would say he is a lifesaver and peacemaker after all he has done.
