My Hero: Nick Vujicic

If a man without arms and legs is dreaming big, why can’t we all?” Nick Vujicic

Nick Vujicic, an Australian boy, was born in 1982, but because of a strange disease----Phocomelia, he was born without arms and legs.

Nick, because of his strange look, was bullied by students in elementary school. But because of a friend’s cheering up and his family members' support, he decided to be a confident person, not only so his family did not worry about him, but for himself.

He thought:” I can be sad and do nothing in my whole life, but why don’t I live in joy and let everyone know that I’m not a useless person, but a child, or a man like everyone else that just looks different to them?” So, he chooses to stay under the sun, and do everything other people do: when others sit by a desk having class, he does; when they are having lunch in the dining hall, he does; even when they are having PE class, he plays sport with them too. He really likes to do sports, so he trains his body hard. Instead of legs and arms, he uses his head and his “little chicken-like foot “ to help him, so he can play soccer, ski-board, and even surfing. This helps him groom his confident so that he won't be afraid to face and communicate with people.

Because of this strong confidence, he finished college, and got a double degree in 2003. In 2008, he became the president of “Life Without Limbs”. He then published "Life Without Limits" ; ”Unstoppable: The Incredible Power of Faith in Action”; ” Stand Strong: You Can Overcome Bullying (and Other Stuff That Keeps You Down)”; “Limitless:Devotions for a Ridiculously Good Life”; ”Love Without Limits: A Remarkable Story of True Love Conquering All” in2010,2012,2014,2015.In his newest book, he first talked about how he was in love with his Japanese wife, Kanae Miyahara.

After he became famous, he visited many schools to give speeches. He always shows his confidence and passion for life to everyone. During his speeches, he sometimes plays some tricks, every time he does things well; he gets a lot of cheers from the audience. But, when he fails----especially when he fails----he laughs, makes fun of himself, and tries it again and again, until he does it, not with other’s help, but by himself. He uses his inspiring words to inspire people, make people feel hopeful about their lives.

In our opinion, we think Nick is an indomitable person. He always cheers everybody up by letting us know that we are so lucky that we have a healthy body and live an easier life. We like a sentence that he said in his book: “If a man without arms and legs is dreaming big, why can’t we all?” Truly, we can all make our dreams come true just by believing ourselves, just keep our confidence, stay whole-hearted, and most importantly, never give up. Be a Nick Vujicic. Every time when you fall, stand up, try it again and again. Defeat the destiny, conquer inborn conditions, then the dream isn’t just a “dream”, it can become your future. This is what we learned, and what we can imitate from a 30 years old Australian Phocomelia hero----Nick Vujicic.
