A nurse practitioner in a hospital is going through her day like its a normal day. She looks out of the window to see the Kansas City area and sees a man that she thinks is intoxicated. The woman thinks he is going into the ER, but he just sits on the curb. So she goes back to finish some paperwork. Five minutes later she looks back out of the window and sees that the man is laying down. Being the good person she is, she goes to check if he is ok. She rushes down there and sees that he is passed out and not breathing. She quickly reacts and starts doing CPR; as she is doing that she has someone call the ER. Someone from the ER comes running out and gets him to take him into the ER. Later that day she hears a knock at her door and it's someone from the ER; he says that if she did not act as quickly as she did, the man would not be alive today.
To any other person, they would see this random hospital worker as a hero, But to me, this is not just my hero, it’s my mom.
My mom is 51, but if I could I would say she is 35. She majored in nursing and went to the University of Iowa. She has been a nurse for 29 years and she is an advanced practice provider and works in the heart center at Children's Mercy Hospital. This is only one of the many stories she has told me as a kid. I believe that this story made me think about going into the medical field. I think she is a great role model for me.
