Peggy Whitson

Well, that's how long Peggy Whitson lived in space. Peggy was an inspiration to woman and astronauts all around the world. She had many experiences in her childhood that led her to be who she is today. There were many obstacles Peggy had to overcome but she always came around in the end. Peggy has had many accomplishments that helped her in her career. There are many characteristics that people need to become an astronaut and Peggy has them all.

Many experiences in Peggy's childhood led her to become a record breaking astronaut. Peggy was inspired to become an astronaut when she watched Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the moon. When Sally Ride became the first women American astronaut, Peggy new that she for sure wanted to become an astronaut. Peggy got her bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1981 which helped her have more of the requirements to become an astronaut.

Peggy had to overcome many obstacles to become an influential astronaut. Peggy took thirteen years to get a mission in space because she had to go through loads of training and preparation. Being the first female commander of the International Space Station was tough for Peggy because she had to set the path for female astronauts around the world. The physical struggle of becoming an astronaut is damaging because when you are in space for an extended period of time you lose muscle and bone.

Peggy has had many accomplishments in her career so far. Peggy was the first female commander of the International Space Station and set many records for her work. She holds the record for oldest women spacewalker and the world's most experienced spacewalker. Peggy has stayed in space for six hundred sixty-five days over her whole career which beats any other American astronaut and any other women.

Peggy is very brave to go up to space and spend hundreds of days up there not knowing what could happen. She has to make many sacrifices when staying in space because she has to leave all of her family and friends. Peggy stays determined to break barriers and set records even when things are tough.

"Know that what you dream for might seem impossible, but you will be successful as long as you make your life decisions based on your own value system and not others," said astronaut Peggy Whitson to her younger self. This is an example of an inspiration through the words of a true hero. While making many new discoveries in space, Peggy inspired many people around the world to stay determined and to always follow your dreams. Through all of the obstacles Peggy has overcome she inspired me to keep trying even if things are hard. Peggy makes me want to follow my dream and set a path for women all over the world.
