Thomas Edison

by crickett from Grain Valley

Thomas Edison was successful even through his failures. He was a quick learner, smart in business, an inventor, and an entrepreneur.

Thomas Edison is my hero because he was not afraid to try new things and he was not afraid to fail. He invented many things for everyone to enjoy, including myself. Let me tell you about his life.

Thomas Alva Edison was born in February 11, 1842. He only attended three months of school because his schoolmaster called him addled. (Spoiled) Then the rest he learned by his mother. She taught him reading, writing, and arithmetic.

His first job was selling newspapers at the age twelve. Then in 1862 he published his own newspaper. That was an interesting fact to me, because Thomas worked at the age twelve.

While working as a telegraph operator, he made his first important invention, a telegraphic repeat instrument that enabled messages to be transmitted automatically over a second line without the presence of an operator. Also he invented the vote recorder! By the sale of telegraphic appliances Edison earned forty-thousand dollars. With that money he established his own laboratory. Edison announced his invention of a phonograph by sound could be recorded mechanically on a tinfoil cylinder. Two years later he exhibited publicly his, incandescent electric light bulb. That was one of the most important inventions he ever created. In 1882 he installed the world’s largest central electric-power station located in New York City, New York. Thomas Alva Edison is my hero because he never gave up and was not afraid to try new things.
