Many people have seen the movie Schindler’s List. What people don’t know is why Oskar Schindler, the main character of Schindler’s list, was a hero. Oskar Schindler was a hero because he was concerned about the treatment of the Jews, so he saved them. He also saved Jews because he felt compassion and mercy toward them. And the last reason I cover about how he saved The Jews is he outwitted Hitler and the Nazis to save his Jews. That is why Oskar Schindler is a hero.

Oskar Schindler was born on April 18th 1908 in Zwittau, Germany. Oskar’s father, Hans, owned a factory and made lots of money. When Oskar was ten world war one broke out and many people died. Oskar Schindler had a sister named Elfriede whom he had a close relationship with. When Oskar married Emilie, his wife, it caused problems with him and his father. When Oskar became a young man, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis began to take over Germany and Zwittau became Czechoslovakia.

During Oskar’s life he had many challenges along the way. One of his challenges was during a spring early into world war two; Russians were killing Germans, where Oskar and his wife Emilie lived. Another challenge Oskar had was that he had a terrible drinking problem and he cheated on his wife! For example some SS officials found him naked with a female SS officer (while he is still married) and when they found him he just smiled! And the last but most important challenge was trying to keep his “list” of protected Jews going. Those are just some of the many, many challenges Oskar Schindler faced.

Oskar had some contributions. One of them is he made an extra department in the Deutsche Emalenwaren Fabrik (the artillery Department) to save more Jews. Another contribution he did was he kept the SS out to keep his Jews alive. For example, when Oskar was being arrested for kissing a Jewish girl he bribed the SS official to go back to the Deutsche Emalenwaren Fabrik (DEF for short) to make sure his Jews are all there still. And the last contribution he did was he bribed SS officials to keep his Jews alive. Those are just some contributions Oskar Schindler did.

Oskar really did not have any awards but he did have a couple of recognitions. Here are some of his recognitions. A movie called Schindler’s List was made about him. The movie is about him and how he saved Jews and about how he did it without getting caught. The movie is very interesting I have to admit, but it can be depressing. Like this one part on were this Jewish girl who was wearing a red dress tries to hide under a bed because she does not want to die. Then later in the movie you see her again be this time her red dress is red as blood and her being thrown into a dead Jew pile. The movie won many awards, such as the best picture award and seven Academy Awards. For a second recognition many books were made about him. Unfortunately I have only read on and that book is called Oskar Schindler: Righteous Gentile. For the last recognition there are many websites about him. Here is one of them http://www.Oskarschindler.com. Those are just some of the recognitions Oskar Schindler had.

Oskar Schindler has many character traits. Good ones or bad ones. One of them is he was rich. That is a character trait because he liked having and spending money. He is also rich because he loved driving nice cars- which equals spending money. And the last reason he was rich is that “he hatched many schemes to get rich” Emilie his wife said. Another trait he has is he is clever. Oskar is clever because he sent people to get his Jews out of Birkenau. Oskar is also clever because he bribed many SS officials to keep his Jews safe. And the last trait I have is Oskar was a leader. He was a leader because he gave his Jews a second life. Oskar also was a leader because he was the only person who stood between keeping his Jews Alive and his Jews being dead. Those are some of the traits Oskar has.

As you can see Oskar Schindler, the main character of Schindler List, was a “righteous man or was he a horrible sinner”?
