Miley Ray Cyrus (born November 23, 1992) is an American pop singer, songwriter, television and film actress who rose to fame after starring as the title character in the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana. After the success of Hannah Montana, a soundtrack CD was released in October 2006. Her solo music career began with the release of her debut album, Meet Miley Cyrus on June 23, 2007. Miley's second album, Breakout, released on July 22, 2008, was her first album independent of the Hannah Montana show. The lead single "Party in the U.S.A.", became Cyrus’ highest charting and Hollywood Records's fastest selling single, reaching number two in the Billboard Hot 100 and the top ten in various nations. According to her record label, Cyrus has sold over 15 million records as of April 2010.

Miley's first headlining tour, the Best of Both Worlds Tour, lasted from October 18, 2007 to January 31, 2008 with 69 concerts across the United States. She performed both as herself and as Hannah Montana. I had the privledge of attending her live concert when my Dad suprised me with the tickets. At first I was really excited because I really enjoyed her singing. I still do, but I don't like what she has become and the way she acts.

On April 25, 2008, it was reported on TV that Miley had posed topless for a photoshoot with Vanity Fair. The photo shows Miley with her bare back exposed but her front covered with a blanket. The full photograph was published on the internet. In reality she was wrapped in a blanket and was actually not topless. Some parents expressed concern at the nature of the photograph. Disney described it as "a situation [that] was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines." Parents hoped that she would make a good example for their kids. I think that doing these pictures changed her career, and not for the good.

Miley's performance of "Party in the U.S.A." at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards also created concern with her fans. Critics of the performance complained that she danced provocatively alongside a dance pole. Another part of the performance seemed to poke fun at American culture. There were negative comparisons to Britney Spears, though Cyrus herself welcomed comparisons to the former teen pop star. This took the focus away from the six awards she won that night. She already had a risqué image, and was trying to broaden her appeal to older audiences. Miley's label, Hollywood Records, and The Walt Disney Company, which produces Hannah Montana, offered no comment.

At first I really looked up to her. Then as she started to changed her image, I fell kinda of disapointed. Now that I am older I understand why she wanted to break free from the little girl image on the Disney Channel. Her music is more appealing to me because I am growing up at the same time she is.
