Pete Sampras was born on August 17, 1971. He was born in Washington D.C. He had two brothers and one sister. In his family, tennis came natural. His sister, Stella, won the 1988 NCAA double, and his brother, Gus, is an assistant director of tennis tournaments. Pete is just the one in the family that gets the most news coverage. In September 30, 2000, Pete was married to actress, Bridgette Wilson.
Pete Sampras' tennis career started when he was very young. He started to play tennis when he was seven years old. His idol was Rod Laver, ad by the age of eleven, he was able to play with him. In 1988, at age sixteen, Pete had joined the professional tour. He won his first tournament even in February 12, 1990, and reached the number 1 spot by April 12, 1993. He has won more Grand Slam titles than any other tennis player in the tour. In all, he has won 14 titles. Also he kept the number one ranking for six consecutive years.
The reason why Pete Sampras is my hero is because he is someone that I would like to be like in my life. To me, he is a man of great skill and prestige. Not only for the fact that he plays tennis, which is a great sport, but mainly because he is successful in what he does. I think people, even if they do not play tennis, should respect him for who he is. He was probably as common a man as anyone else. He was a common man whom strove for perfection, and rose to success. Never giving up, always being persistent in what he does. He set goals for himself, and worked hard in order to achieve his dream.
I am sure that Pete inspires hundreds of thousands of people all around the world. He inspires the young to work hard to obtain their dream, and to never give up. He inspires the old to keep going, and to not let anything get in the way of one's dream. Pete has reached his mid-thirties, and he still continues to play tennis, even with the comments of his old age. His experience and skill overpowers the young players. I guess I chose Pete because he in a symbol of success and dedication and also the fact that he plays tennis. Maybe when I grow older, I can be as successful as he is. I might not be able to match his success in tennis, or in the field of sports, but just being successful in achieving my goals.
