Edgar Allan Poe

by Jonathan from New York

"never more"

My hero is Edgar Allan Poe, best known for his poems and short stories. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. His parents died before he was 3 years old. He was taken in to the home of John Allen. He was a wealthy merchant.

Edgar had an uneventful childhood. He enlisted in the army. His father secured his release from the army and his appointment to West Point, but refused to provide financial support. He was released from West Point due to disciplinary reasons.

His fellow cadets contributed funds for the book poems by Edgar A. Poe second edition, which in fact was his third book. He soon died in 1849 just four years after what could be his greatest work, The Raven.

In the sixth grade I started writing poetry. I showed one of my writings to my parents. My dad associated the work with Poe’s. He then introduced me to a book that fueled me to write. Since then, I have written about thirty poems and have started work on my first short story. Without Poe’s work I would not have found my passion for writing.
