The famous twentieth century Spanish artist Joan Miró suffered from cyclical depression during the entirety of his life. He used art to reflect and express the feelings he experienced during the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War.
Joan Miro was a Spanish artist who used painting as a way to deal with his depression. Without his art, Miro said that he would become "very depressed, [and] gloomy". The artist's use of bright colors and increasingly abstract imagery allowed for the artist to escape some of the stress he faced in reality. Art has the ability to help in improving mental health, and can be used as a healthy outlet. Miro's vulnerability in being open about the depression he faced is heroic in itself.
