I chose this book because I like Roald Dahl and his books. His books are fun and exciting. This is a biography book that has one hundred and two pages, and it begins in 1911 his birth to 1990 his death. This book was written in 2012 by True Kelley. She got the Golden Duck Award for best children's illustrated book in 2003.

The book I am studying was made in New York. Roald Dahl was born in Norway. Roald had five sisters, two moms and one dad. Roald Dahl went to a boarding school when he was younger. Roald liked to keep a diary too. When Roald crashed his car, he had a broken nose and had to get stitches. His mom loved him more than his sisters. This book did not say what dreams he had, or if he knew what he wanted to be when he was older. His mom read him a lot of stories that probably made him want to write.

Theo (Roald's three-month baby) was in a baby carriage and got hit by a taxi cab. Roald rushed Theo to the hospital. Theo had a drain that stopped the fluid from building up in his brain, but the drain kept clogging, so Roald Dahl got together and invented a solution. Roald's wife had a stroke and went into a coma. After three months Roald’s wife got out of the hospital, but she could barely talk and jumbled her words. Roald Dahl got a speech therapist and Roald made her exercise all day and she got better. His invention and his routine help people today. His kids contributed to his success. Roald Dahl said, “Had I not had children, I would not have written books for children.” He was loving because he was a stay-at-home dad. He was courageous because he fought a black mamba snake with a field hockey stick. He was creative because he made over ten children books too. When he was talking to the movie directors, he was touchy, blunt and stubborn. This made him hard to work with. Roald Dahl broke his nose twice and had to get stitches. The second time he got stitches the doctor made his nose like a movie star! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was the most printed book at that time, two million copies! In Dahl’s honour, there were postage stamps made with his story characters on them and he has a museum in England so that people can remember him.

What I learned that surprised me is that Roald Dahl had two broken noses. First Roald Dahl crashed his car and had a broken nose. The second time Roald Dahl was in a plane and he crashed and broke his nose again. If I could say three questions to him, I would say, “When you broke your nose, how much blood was there? Did your hand hurt when you were writing stories? How did you have your spine in your shed!?” I would want to be his child because I would live in a mansion. I liked this book because it had a lot of information and a lot of pictures. I learned that Roald Dahl was an inventor and what a coma is. I would like to write books like Roald Dahl. Others would like this book because it is funny and exciting. I am pretty happy about choosing Roald Dahl as my hero because he helped people. He would be someone to look up to because he was a good person.
