Rosa Parks was optimal for the civil rights movement because of her major courage to fight for rights. “What made Parks unique was her standing in the African American community. Montgomery civil rights leaders knew she would be an ideal person to support their fight for integration in the court system,” (St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture). Rosa Parks became an ideal person to become a part of the fight within the African American community because of the many roles she had in the standing. This quote shows that shes courageous because she had a huge role in society where she fought for what was good with all knowing that she could face consequences for fighting back. There were many rules back then for the African Americans. For example, they had their own bathrooms, water fountains, seats, etc. “On December 1, 1955, Rosa Lee Parks (née McCauley; 1913-2005) refused to relinquish her seat to a white passenger on a racially segregated Montgomery, Alabama bus,” (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Rosa Parks was coming home from her long day of work going home and she had decided to take the Montgomery bus home. She then encountered a problem when she found her seat on the bus. A white man wanted her seat. This quote is an introduction to the problem that she deals with. After she goes through this problem of racial segregation, the trait of being courageous is presented. According to the law at the time, she is supposed to give up her seat when a white person would request but she decided to defy the rule and stand up for herself. Rosa Parks holds courage by showing bravery with her standing against the fight and her key event that showed racial segregation. She knows that what she’s doing is for a good cause so she decided to go through the route that results in consequences just for the sake of standing up for herself and her African American community.
