Portrait of Sam Goldofsky by artist David Kassan (2015).
The portrait of Sam Goldofsky is the first in a series of paintings of Survivors of the Holocaust. The artist recorded the histories of his subjects, getting to know their unique stories and testimonies. Kassan's paintings turn into a part of the survivor's testimonies in the process. The sitters in the artist's portraits are dignified, they are portrayed as individuals who are no longer victims. These works preserve the life and resilience of their subject, giving concrete faces to a sometimes abstract idea of the Holocaust.
