SANA BAKKOUSH
Sanna Bakkoushwww.twitter.comOur hero is Sana Bakkoush. She is played by Iman Meskini in the Norwegian series called SKAM. She is a 17-year-old Muslim girl who goes to Hartvig Nissens high school. She is the central character of the fourth and last season of SKAM. The series tackles the problems of today’s society and wants to explain them to the teenagers by choosing a group of teens from different cultures, religions. SKAM means “shame” in English. She is the kindest, most caring, the most reasonable of the group. She is very confident that’s why Sana doesn’t care about what the others say about the fact that she wears the hijab. She protects her friends more than herself. Then, we admire her since she is a feminist.
We consider her as a hero because she couldn’t go out with a boy though she was falling in love with him. In the Koran it is written that she can’t be with someone who is not Muslim. Despite being a believer she doesn’t agree with everything that is written in the Koran. She used to follow the ideas of her religion but she finally follows her heart and dates Yousef (the boy she likes). She says a lot of meaningful quotes for instance “hate doesn’t come from religion. It comes from fear”. Thanks to her we are more open-minded and she helps us ask questions about life. She is kind of a young philosopher.
As she is like us, we feel close to her so we follow her ideas, advice on life. But like every human being she also makes mistakes.
She helps us to understand important topics (such as religion, skin color, homosexuality).
This series is made for teenagers to help them to grow up in our society and to not judge people because of their appearance, religion, skin color and sexual orientation.
