Celebrating Serena Williams, athlete and champion for women.
Universally, as humans, we organize ourselves into complex social relationships with power dynamics, usually in the form of hierarchies. In the United States, our social hierarchy has been organized in a manner that places women and people of color at the bottom of that power ladder which suppresses their power and control over the control they have over their lives. Serena Williams and all of her accomplishments she has achieved throughout her life have reminded me that there's agency within societies to push against the pre-established social hierarchies. She is my hero because she inspires me, and many other black women, that our dreams are accomplishable despite what our society says should be possible for us to achieve.
