Stan Lee

by Jason from Ventura

Stan Lee was born in New York in 1922 as Stanley Lieber. He came into the comic book world at 17 years of age, as an assistant editor for the Timely comics group. In 1942, he was promoted to editor for the same company. The Timely comics company was renamed Atlas and entered hard times as comic book sales were extremely low during the 1950’s. In the beginning of his career, Stan Lee was accredited with writing comic series such as: 'The Witness', 'The Destroyer', 'Jack Frost', 'Whizzer' and 'Black Marvel'. These stories were not what he is most famous for, they were low quality pieces. But by 1961, the quality of his stories had changed dramatically and Atlas comics changed their name to the now famous Marvel Group. With Marvel, Stan Lee and his produced the most famous superheroes of all such as 'The Fantastic Four', 'Spider-Man', 'Doctor Strange', 'Thor', 'The Hulk', 'Sub-Mariner', 'Daredevil', X-Men’ and 'Iron Man' which are still very much alive today. These comics helped make way for some great motion pictures and television shows too. Stan Lee will forever live in everyone’s mind as the man who created their favorite superhero or their childhood idle.
