stephaniefast.orgImagine being four years old, on the streets of South Korea because of having been abandoned by family. That’s where Stephanie Fast’s story began. Stephanie Fast was abandoned at age four, at train station in South Korea. She was deserted by her mother because her father was an American soldier. A hero must be brave and resourceful. She shows these characteristics by persevering through multiple near death situations. Stephanie Fast is an inspiration to many. She is brave and resourceful. She may of had a rough past, but that only made her stronger.
dgiwire.comStephanie Fast shows bravery when she was living on the streets of South Korea. Stephanie Fast talks about her time on the streets during an interview. “Death was uncommon; I saw it all the time” (Healing Childhood Traumas). Bravery is a quality needed if someone is living on the streets. Stephanie Fast is still alive to this day. So to have seen death, and not let it take her, requires lots of bravery. Living on the streets wasn’t even the worst of it for Stephanie. “Cruelly prosecuted and tortured, she eventually wound up at a garbage dump, covered with boils and dirt, lice-infested, worm-ridden and cross-eyed from malnutrition” (Inside the Book). Having boils all over a body must be excruciating. Then having worms in the boils must have made it ten times worse. Having boils everywhere is one thing but, to also have lice. It MUST have been torture. Living on the streets is bad enough on its own, but having open wounds and lice takes someone who is one of the bravest. But she wasn’t only brave, she was also resourceful.
amazon.comStephanie Fast wasn’t only brave, she was also resourceful. Being only four years old, Stephanie Fast had to have been resourceful to survive. “She remembered that her mama sometimes pulled stalks from the ground and let her snack on the handful of plants…” (Fast 65). She had to use her own knowledge to survive because she was on her own. Luckily her mom had shown her that she could eat the end of the stalks. She was also resourceful when she would find scrap metal and use them for good uses. “Yoon Myoung discovered that her flattened nails were sharp enough to cut vegetables and melons” (72). At first, Stephanie didn’t realize the point of the flattened nails. They fascinated her. So, she started collecting them. But when she realized she could use the nails as tools, her life must have became much easier. Those are just a few examples of her resourcefulness.
Yoon Myoung, or also known as Stephanie Fast, is an inspiration to many. She is brave and resourceful. She had a rough past, but that only made her stronger. Stephanie’s mother had abandoned her, leading Stephanie to become very brave for just a little kid. She also needed to be resourceful. She basically lived on the streets and in the wild. Stephanie is an inspiration because she beat the odds. Not just because she survived when she was a little girl, but had her faith to help keep her strong. If Stephanie wasn’t brave and resourceful, there would have been a very high chance of her dying. Being brave and resourceful are just two of the qualities shown during Stephanie’s story.
