"You can do it!"

133655My mother Tatiana Salgado.Personal photoI believe that heroes are not famous people, but people that are brave enough to speak up or to do something that people believe that you can’t do. For example, one of the heroes I know about is Martin Luther King. Martin was a person of color who only had a dream, and he wasn’t famous when he tried to accomplish his dream. Heroes that everyone knows, like Rosa Park, Malala, and Gandhi, fought for their rights by doing whatever they could to get peace, even though they were ordinary people like us. They wanted to fight for their rights and others. I also believe that heroes have more positive traits than negative traits because they have the confidence and courage to be a hero.

The person that I chose to be a hero in my life is my mother, Tatiana Salgado, because she inspires me to work hard. Another reason why I pick Tatiana is because she works hard on life even though she gets tired, and she never gives up until she has time to take care of herself. The reason why she never gives up is because her children inspired her to be better in life. When I told her she is my hero she felt weird about somebody calling her a hero because she thinks she is not able to be a hero, but to me I think she is. The thing that she is most proud of accomplishing is learning and experiencing new things because most people in the U.S. spoke a different language. She did these things because she moved to America. The advice she gives to young people is to stay in school and learn because these are the things that she needed to overcome her challenges in her childhood.

Tatiana's childhood was interesting and wild because she went from one country to another by the age of 15. The country she was in before she came to the U.S had different cultures and languages. For her, 6th grade was good and easy because everything they learned was a repeat of what they learned in 5th grade. Her school was small, there were 25 students in each class, and the students would stay in one class for each subject, but the teacher would have to walk to different classes for each subject. The challenges in her life were to learn a new culture and language coming from El Salvador to the USA. Tatiana overcome these challenges by talking to people and going to school. At the end of our conversation of her childhood, I asked her if you could change your life what will you change. Her answer was that she wouldn’t change anything in her life because she learns from the mistakes.

Her childhood makes Tatiana a hero. Because of her childhood, she is able to work hard on things she needs to accomplish in her life. If she never had this kind of childhood, then she might not be the hard-working person she is today, because when she was a teenager she had to work so hard to learn a new language and culture by the age of 15. The most important reason why I pick Tatiana to be my hero is that she is hard working. I am inspired to be hard working like how Tatiana was.

I'm glad that I pick Tatiana to be my hero because if I didn’t ask her these questions, then I wouldn’t know the new facts about her that makes me have more ideas to have her to be my hero, and I'm also glad that I found a good role model in my life. For example I learned that her life was really interesting for just a girl who came to the U.S. at the age of 15. Another example of why I pick Tatiana to be my hero is that she was 15 when she started to work hard on learning a new culture and language.
