122000Terry Fox webTeaganI chose Terry Fox for my project because I think he is inspiring and a very kind person. My book is a biography book. I really enjoy this book. My book is 35 pages long. This book covers the time from when he was nine months old to when he was 22, that is when he died. My book was published in 2005. The author of my book is Maxine Trottier she was born on May 3, 1950. She is a Canadian writer/editor now. She taught elementary school for 31 years.

122002Terry Fox PortraitTeaganTerry fox was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 28, 1958. Terry grew up in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Terry had three siblings; Darrell, Fred and Judith Fox. His parents were Betty and Rolly Fox. Terry went to school at Simon Fraser University. Terry Fox liked basketball, soccer and baseball. He won lots of trophies. When Terry was a kid he would enter races for fun. Terry was inspired by a man named Dick Traum, he was the first amputee to complete the New York City Marathon. When Terry read that in the newspaper he wanted to do that marathon right away! When Terry was younger, he wanted to be a gym teacher or a professional basketball player. When Terry was a little boy, his father said that he was very competitive and that he didn't like to lose so much that he wouldn't stop playing that sport until he won.

122003Terry Fox actionTeaganTerry Fox had a challenge when he was a teenager, he got cancer in his leg and it was a big challenge for him when he was running. Terry Fox got his leg amputated and got a fake leg, but then the cancer spread to his lungs and that's how he sadly died. Terry got a lot of help from his best friend Doug Alward. He drove a truck behind Terry while he was running. Terry was very courageous because he almost ran all the way across  Canada for cancer research. Terry is also very strong. He would get up so early and still have the strength to run so much! Terry was so friendly, because when he saw someone on the side of the road he would say hi and take picture with them. Terry's weakness was his cancer in his leg, he probably would've made it if did not have cancer because it spread to his lungs so he could not breathe, so that's why he died. Something sad that happened to Terry was he got cancer in his leg and then his lungs. Terry won the Lou Marsh Award as Canada´s Best Athlete and was named the Canada's Newsmaker of the Year.

Terry Fox surprised me by running at such a young age all that way with one leg. Can you believe it? If I could ask Terry three questions I would ask him if it was it hard to walk on his fake leg at first, and if it was fun for him to run so far, and was it his dream to run across Canada when he was a kid? If I had the chose to be his child I would chose not to be his child because he died so young, then I would not have a dad for most of my life. The book I read was a good book with lots of good information. I enjoyed reading it. I learnt from my book that that Terry was put on a one dollar coin and that he had won many marathons when he was younger. Something similar that Terry and I have in common is we both like to run and are very active. Other people may or may not like this book because it´s very short and some people might like a longer book, but they might like it because it has a ton of information. I´m happy that I chose Terry Fox as my hero because he is very inspiring. I think that Terry is still my hero after learning all the new things about him, but I have other heroes too.
