Synopsis
Phillip is excited when the Germans invade the small island of Curaçao. War has always been a game to him, and he's eager to glimpse it firsthand - until the freighter he and his mother are traveling to the United States on is torpedoed.

When Phillip comes to, he is on a small raft in the middle of the sea. Besides Stew Cat, his only companion is an old West Indian, Timothy. Phillip remembers his mother's warning about black people: "They are different, and they live differently."

But by the time the castaways arrive on a small island, Phillip's head injury has made him blind and dependent on Timothy.

The seniors of my school are reading this book. Almost all of us are understanding the book and really enjoying it. We have learnt so far about the dangers of war and how scary it is. We are doing a project on 'The Cay' and for that, we must write a character web, so we are really getting to know all the characters without really meeting them, which I find really good. I always read, and I agree with Allt. It is a really good book, and I put it in my top ten. I hope that many others post some really meaningful notes and the ones who have already posted a note, learn something from others thoughts.
