many machines and made our world lighter than before. He had a lot of trouble in his life, but
he never gave up. So, he is my hero.

Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, on February 11, 1847. When he was in elementary
school, he asked his teachers a lot of questions. His teachers were very unhappy with him, so his
mother taught him by herself at home. Edison studied hard and did many experiments. He
went to the library and read a lot of books. He also sold newspapers on the train. Once,
Edison saved a boy from being run over by train. Because of it, the boy’s father told Edison
something about telegraph communication system and taught him how to use it. The first
invention from Edison was designed to count votes. But who wanted to buy it? No one did.
Edison learned that he needed to make his invention useful and people needed it! He set up
a company and many people helped him with his invention. One of Edison’s most important
inventions was the phonograph. It could record and replay sounds. Everyone may know that he
invented light bulbs. However, it is not really true. Edison did not invent the first light
bulb, but he made light bulbs brighter and cheaper than before, and let almost every family
have light bulbs. Even though every family had light bulbs, they didn't have power. So, he made an
electrical power distribution system in the USA and helped more and more families have bright
and convenient lives.

Edison made the world better. He had many important inventions and made a great
contribution to our modern lives. He said “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine
percent perspiration.” He never gave up because he wanted to do better. He was working
hard and hard. Because of my hero, Thomas Edison, I won’t give up and I hope to be better
in the future.
