Tim Howard

by Ben from Bayport, New York in United States

Tim Howard was born on March 16, 1979, and was born and raised in New Jersey. He was born into a poor family and his mom didn't have enough money to live happily. He grew up in North Brunswick, in an apartment complex called Northwood Estates. Tim Howard’s mother was not very wealthy. His father moved out when he was really little. He has a brother named Chris. His mother treated him well, and his brother teased him a lot, but was kind of like his guardian.

One interesting moment was when kids started noticing Tim Howard had Tourettes Syndrome (TS), and also obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Another interesting moment was when Chris was on crutches and saw Tim getting bullied. Then he went up to the bully and punched him in the nose (he ended up breaking the nose). Another interesting moment was when Tim Howard signed with Manchester United, a world-class soccer club in Europe. Another interesting moment was when he found out he was going to have kids. His two kids, Ali and Jacob, loved him and he loved them a lot too.

One career highlight would be when he blocked a penalty shot on Manchester United to win the FA Cup. “It was the best kind of mayhem. All of us were thrilled beyond measure” (Howard 149). He says this when they are celebrating on the field after the game.

One obstacle he had to overcome was when he had Tourettes Syndrome while he was a goalie, and the way he overcame it is by just dealing with it and did really good anyway. His special talent is just, being a goalie in general. He was a very good, nice person, especially considering he had TS and OCD. He could be considered a hero because he was able to team up with the leader of a group who recognizes kids with TS. He gave speeches to the kids and took pictures with the kids.
