CALL FOR ENTRIES - MY HERO’S 2016 DAN ELDON ACTIVIST AWARD
LAGUNA BEACH, CA - 03/18/16 - The MY HERO Project is looking to honor filmmakers who use the power of media to effect positive change with the 2016 Dan Eldon Activist Award. The Dan Eldon Activist Award is a $500 cash prize given for a film about activism.
The annual award is presented by author and activist Kathy Eldon, in honor of her late son Dan. Dan Eldon was killed while on assignment in 1993, while working as a photojournalist in Somalia. Eldon was a passionate activist and artist, fearless in his quest to help others and to tell stories people could not tell for themselves.
Past winners include “Frame by Frame” (2015), a film by Mo Scarpelli and Alexandria Bombach about the effort to build a free press in Afghanistan, after decades of war and an oppressive Taliban regime, and “Waves for Water (2014),” by Aaron Flynn and HURLEY, about pro-surfer Jon Rose, who started a movement to help people around the world gain access to clean water.
There are categories for filmmakers of all ages and abilities, from elementary school student to professional. Entries may include Narrative, Documentary Music Video, Experimental and Animation genres as well as Excerpts, Indy Features in Development and PSAs. Submissions should be no longer than 10 minutes in length and appropriate for all ages.
The early deadline for submissions to qualify for the Dan Eldon Activist Award is April 15, 2016.
