Alexander Graham Bell

by Geraldine from Innisfil

My hero is, Alexander Graham Bell. He was born, March 3rd 1870 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Alexander has two brothers, Melly and Edward. In May 1870, Alexander’s older brother, Melly died of tuberculosis. Edward also died of tuberculosis. When Alexander was just 20 years old he began to study and teach in England. Alexander’s family decided to move to Canada for fresh air because they didn't want Alexander dying of tuberculosis. In 1870 the family moved to Brantford. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone but before the telephone was invented there was a telegraph. The telegraph was the fastest way to send a message.

Alexander Graham Bell is my hero because he invented lots of thing we use today like the telephone. If we didn’t have the telephone we wouldn’t be able to talk to family and friends that live far away. By 1880 about one and every 1000 people had a telephone! Another one of Alexander’s inventions was the vacuum jacket; the vacuum jacket was to help people with polio. Polio is when people couldn’t breathe on their own because their chest muscles became paralyzed. The vacuum jacket squeezed the chest and they could breath on their own again.

In 1880 Alexander met a girl named Helen Keller. Helen couldn’t hear or see. Helen became a role model for people who couldn’t hear or see. Alexander’s father was also an inventor. In my opinion Alexander Graham Bell did many things for people.

The reason why Alexander is a good inventor because he grew up in an environment with inventors. In 1888, Alexander Graham Bell was one of the founding members of the National Geographic Society.

I hope you enjoyed my hero story!
