Amelia Earhart

by Ireland from Barrie

"Though it will be hard, almost impossible, and though this flight might cost me my life, I know I can do it!" - Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart
Amelia had a dream, a dream to conduct the first solo flight for men and women. She had almost completed this far fetched impossibility, but death took her life before she could finish. Her story ended with a heart wrenching, tragic death. It all started on July 24, 1897, when Amelia was born. In her years, Amelia had achieved many of her outstanding goals and showed an endless amount of determination during flights. Even when some doubted her, Amelia pushed through tough times and succeeded in doing the impossible. Before she died in 1937, Amelia had already earned the respect of people worldwide. She's a great role model for both men and women to learn equal rights.

Amelia Takes Flight
In Amelia's earlier years, she had always dreamed of flying, and being the goal setter that she is, Amelia thought up a plan and got right to work. Days later, Amelia had set up an intricate, carefully thought-out ramp to the perfect degree leaning up against her shed door. Amelia set it up, and jumped of off it! "It feels like you are really flying!" Amelia told her sister Muriel M. Earhart, who watched in awe. Ever since that day, Amelia knew who she wanted to be. She flew for the first time in 1927. Her family, though doubtful, supported Amelia 100%. When it came to their kids' dreams, Amelia's parents encouraged Muriel and her to try new things and never give up.

Amelia's First Plane Trip
Amelia couldn't believe she had actually done it! She had built a plane to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. She spent weeks and weeks working endlessly on it, and was very delighted when she finally completed her very own plane. Her parents supplied most of the little stuff but Amelia, she spent every last dime she had to pay for the other expenses. With the help from friends and family, Amelia was now ready to fly.

Amelia's Disappearances
She had been declared missing for weeks after her expected arrival across the Atlantic Ocean, in California. During her flight Amelia was almost at the shore of Ireland when she hit a snag. Her plane broke down! Being the amazing person she is, she was able to pull out of it and arrive in California only days later. Even twenty years later, even NOW, people are still talking about her amazing journey. She now was now confident. She knew what she had to do next. She, Amelia Earhart, was going to fly across the world!

It happened again, her parents reported, Amelia is missing again! She had made it to a small island after her accomplices failed her. July 2, 1937 was the last anyone heard of Amelia Earhart. She was declared dead just 2 weeks later, when no remains were found in the Bermuda Triangle by her rescue plane.

GO! Amelia GO! Amelia earned the respect of people everywhere, and even today people are inspired by her outstanding story. Though dead Amelia Earhart's determination and confidence will live on forever!
